  Background and Negotiations
   

Negotiations between Chile and Panama were initiated in November of 1996 but were postponed in November 1997. Negotiations were restarted in June 1998 but were postponed again in 1999. In September 2004 negotiations were again restarted and in February of 2006 a free trade agreement was concluded. The FTA was signed on 27 June 2006.

The Chile-Panama Free Trade agreement entered into force on 7 March 2008.
